We’re looking for a skilled and motivated DevOps Engineer to help shape the future of Public Safety software across the Asia Pacific region. In this role, you’ll work on implementing new solutions, supporting tier-one emergency services as they migrate to modern cloud-based platforms. You’ll play a key part in building scalable, secure, and high-performance infrastructure using industry-leading DevOps, automation, and CI/CD practices.


Position summary:

As a DevOps Engineer at Hexagon, you’ll be an IT generalist with expertise across development, operations, infrastructure, and automation. You'll support the full software lifecycle—from concept to deployment—by applying modern DevOps practices, collaborating with internal teams, stakeholders, and customers to deliver high-quality, cloud-based public safety solutions. This role is dynamic and cross-functional, offering opportunities to contribute to both internal innovation and customer-facing projects. This role will be based in our Melbourne office working with our APAC DevOps team.


Responsibilities in this role:

Your primary objective will be to utilise DevOps tools and best practices to automate every stage of the deployment pipeline—ensuring Hexagon consistently meets delivery commitments across time, quality, and cost dimensions for our customers.

  • Perform infrastructure provisioning activities, including deploying servers, database, storage, and networking resources required to host applications, to either on-premise, cloud, or hybrid environments.
  • Perform system administration tasks, including server management, security monitoring, system patching, and network connectivity management.
  • Apply a test-first approach by implementing automated acceptance tests, maintaining test data, and scripting for product and infrastructure validation.
  • Apply a security-first mindset by integrating secure practices into CI/CD pipelines, covering identity and access management, data encryption, secure coding, and automated security testing.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and associated tooling, with a focus on scalability and external productisation where appropriate.
  • Support and lead release and configuration management processes, driving continuous improvement and automation.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including Developers, Architects, Testers, and Implementers—on both internal initiatives and customer-facing projects.
  • Stay current with Hexagon product offerings and DevOps industry trends to ensure best-in-class delivery and support.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including functional specifications, test cases, defect resolutions, and release notes.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in roles such as Associate DevOps Engineer, Software Implementer, Tester, or System Administrator.
  • Solid knowledge of modern DevOps tools and best practices across the entire lifecycle—from infrastructure provisioning and CI/CD to monitoring and operations.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and deploying CI/CD tools, and collaborating across teams to drive effective usage.
  • Strong understanding of Immutable Infrastructure and experience with tools like Packer or Terraform.
  • Practical experience with Configuration Management tools (e.g., Chef, Puppet, Ansible).
  • Proficiency in test automation frameworks for infrastructure, service, and UI layers.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining security standards (e.g., ISO-27001, Essential Eight).
  • Familiarity with technologies such as XML, JSON, scripting, .NET, Citrix, IIS, Azure, Windows OS (server/workstation), and IP networks.
  • Exposure to Agile methodologies (e.g., Kanban, Continuous Delivery).
  • Ability to work with tools like Azure DevOps, Git, TFS, and Visual Studio.
  • Desirable: experience with SQL, SQL Server Mirroring, Always-On, Oracle RDBMS, Data Guard.
  • Experience in an IT vendor/service management environment or delivering customer workshops is a plus.


Skills & Abilities:

  • Expertise in developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, test suites, and automating processes.
  • Proficient in managing cloud, on-premise, and hybrid infrastructures, including security, networking, and patching.
  • Strong coding and scripting skills, with a solid understanding of agile development practices, code reviews, and version control.
  • Ability to create clear technical and business documentation and effectively communicate complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Technically current with a broad understanding of modern IT infrastructure and software practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and resolve issues under pressure.
