PRE-SCREEN QUESTIONS

Answers MUST be via phone/video and submitted w/ candidate

  • Does Eastus2 region have availability zones?
  • What is the difference between global and regional vnet peering?
  • Assuming the vWan and hub are built, what are the 2 azure components needed to initiate connectivity via a vWan Expressroute connection?
  • What RBAC permission is needed to modify Private dns records?

For writing terraform modules:

  • What are the core files needed for creating a module?
  • What are the terraform commands to test a module?
  1. Enterprise-scale Terraform experience – Designing, architecting, and coding Terraform from scratch, not copying/editing templates. Must understand advanced concepts (e.g., Map variables, Managed Identities, Locals blocks, etc.).
  2. Azure Cloud expertise – Migration to Azure and standardization within enterprise landing zones. Strong functionality knowledge (e.g., ExpressRoute, virtual hub, VNet peering, private endpoints).
  3. PowerShell scripting for Azure workloads – Enterprise system management and automation.
  4. Solutioning expertise (70-80%) – Proactively driving task completion, refactoring/developing Terraform modules, and creating scalable code solutions based on requirements.

Bonus Skill: Kubernetes knowledge for implementation expected in 2025.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Migrating enterprise on-prem workloads (e.g., Citrix) to Azure using Terraform.
  • Enhancing and refactoring existing Terraform code for standardization and modularity.
  • Implementing multi-regional networking solutions, routing, and connectivity in Azure.
  • Collaborating across teams for requirements gathering, solution architecture, and end-to-end delivery utilizing Azure/Terraform.
  • Automating processes and scripting with tools like Ansible, as needed.

Soft Skill Priorities:

  • Strong stakeholder communication and presentation skills.
  • Confidence to ask for clarifications and collaborate with team members.
  • Ownership of tasks from requirements gathering to solution delivery.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.

Ideal Screening Process:

  • Confirm Terraform module creation expertise (from scratch).
  • Evaluate Azure cloud migration/problem-solving experience.
  • Assess practical use of Terraform Map variables for dynamic and repeatable solutions.
  • Focus on ability to engage cross-functional teams, collaborate, and solution complex requirements autonomously.

This position demands candidates who can write Terraform from scratch and are skilled in both architecture design and implementation within enterprise Azure environments. Those with purely troubleshooting/ticket resolution experience or a siloed approach will not be suitable for this high-impact role.
