Senior DataOps Engineer ( AWS / Terraform / Docker / Kubernetes )

Initial 12 month contract

Sydney / Brisbane / Perth

$850-1100 a day including super DOE

A Federal Government agency is seeking an experienced Data Infrastructure & DevOps Engineer to lead the design, delivery, and support of complex cloud and data infrastructure solutions.

Working under broad direction, this position requires strong technical leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders and a local full-stack development team to deliver robust data capabilities across high-impact government projects.

Key Responsibilities for the Senior DataOps Engineer ( AWS / Terraform / Docker / Kubernetes ) include :

• Design, build, deploy, and support enterprise-grade cloud and data infrastructure.
• Manage and prioritise incoming work items in a structured queue.
• Apply DevOps and integration best practices to ensure reliability and scalability.
• Collaborate with business users to align technical solutions with strategic objectives.
• Operate within an agile development framework to define requirements and set priorities.
• Actively manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance program goals.

Essential Criteria for the Senior DataOps Engineer ( AWS / Terraform / Docker / Kubernetes ) include :

To be considered, candidates must demonstrate:

1. Extensive hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure and services.
2. Proven experience implementing DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, Artifactory, Jira).
3. Background in deploying Enterprise Data Warehouses and using IaC tools such as Terraform.
4. Proficiency in Git and experience with agile development practices.
5. Ability to write moderately complex code in Python, JavaScript, or Golang.
6. Experience with containerisation, orchestration, and cluster deployment using Docker and Kubernetes.

Desirable Criteria for the Senior DataOps Engineer ( AWS / Terraform / Docker / Kubernetes ) include :

• Familiarity with Postgres, MySQL, and data engineering workflows.
• Exposure to Azure infrastructure.
• Experience with networking, Cloudflare, HashiCorp Vault, Athena, Teradata, or Redshift.
• Skills in PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) deployment and management.
